“Let me get straight to the point. You have a fabulous facility! The feedback I received from our group was exceptional. The setting could not be more quaint or serene for a retreat.”

Northwestern Mutual Life

In early 2005, Evins Mill decided to expand its facilities in order to better accommodate its growing and increasingly diverse clientele. We have three specific goals in mind with this expansion…

  • increase and enhance our dining room space for receptions and banquets
  • create a more inviting and accessible venue for indoor weddings
  • offer a more conducive and convenient location for meetings and conferences

With these goals in mind, Evins Mill approached Edwards & Hotchkiss Architects, based in Brentwood , Tennessee (www.EandHArch.com), to design the new addition. E&H was a natural candidate for this project, as the firm has been one of our most loyal patrons over the years. The collaboration with E&H produced a design to expand our Main Lodge, which we are implementing in two phases.

Phase I – Manning Overlook

Phase I of the expansion project - Manning Overlook - began in January 2006 and was completed just before Memorial Day of that same year. This new cedar porch connects with the Lodge’s front patio, wraps around its living room, extends over the south slope, and will eventually connect to Phase II of the project (see below). This new covered porch provides not only the same great views the original cedar porch offers but also provides a larger and more conducive space for outdoor dining, receptions and small weddings.

Phase II – Taylor Hall

Phase II involves extending the existing Cedar Porch over the south slope by 20 feet and enclosing it. The resulting space, Taylor Hall, will be a 1200 square foot, climate-controlled room with spectacular views and easy access to the Lodge’s common areas, main dining room and restrooms, as well as to our overnight accommodations. This new space will be able to accommodate a variety of events, including meetings, large receptions, banquets and weddings. Conferees and event planners will appreciate its openness and its convenience. Work on Taylor Hall will not begin until after Thanksgiving 2006 and is scheduled for completion by Labor Day weekend of 2007.

While we have intentionally scheduled the construction to coincide with our least trafficked time of year, if guests are staying between December 2006 and August 2007, they will see a work in progress but will not be inconvenienced by it.
