On Saturday, July 2, 2016, the town of Smithville hosts the Fiddlers' Jamboree & Craft Festival, one of country's premier bluegrass music competitions. Just a few minutes from the Dekalb County Courthouse, where the hoedown takes place, Evins Mill is a convenient springboard for the festival - as well as a cool escape from the heat, and a relaxing destination for great meals and overnight accommodations.

To that end, the resort is hosting its own annual Bluegrass Cookout from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. that same Saturday. On Saturday, October 31, as part of its on-going "Music at the Mill" series, Evins Mill is hosting its second concert performance of 2015, featuring the music of Nashville-based singer-songwriter Lisa Witty.

With smart, but not-too-clever lyrics, and beautiful, yet sometimes edgy melodies, Lisa's songs embody much of who she is and where she came from. Growing up in Northern Michigan around the Great Lakes, she was influenced by the peaceful, yet often tumultuous landscape that surrounded her. Drawing on those experiences, Lisa has penned a collection of thought-provoking songs for her new and critically acclaimed album "Lessons In White Light."

She will be accompanied by Nashville-based session guitarist Jerry McPherson, who co-produced the album. While Jerry has toured with Faith Hill, Amy Grant, Reba McEntire & Vince Gill, he has also worked with many studio artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Don Henly, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban & Chris Isaak.

Growing up in the Bible Belt on the Texas Blackland prairie, Leah formed her one girl band in the hills of Tennessee. With lyrics resonating as if from the pages of a hymnal, her music marries the natural and poetic - and embodies the spirit of southern Americana music.

Leah handpicks venues that support her vision and branding, including farms, creative arts schools, local businesses, areas of social outreach, back porches, living rooms, schooners and festivals. As such, Evins Mill is honored for Leah to headline its 2015 "Music at the Mill" series.

On Friday, October 31, Evins Mill hosts its annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. With adult participation in mind, each couple is given at check-in one already cleaned out pumpkin - the canvas for their creative designs! Pumpkins will come in similar shapes and sizes but are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

From room check-in at 3:00 to a social hour at 6:00, guests will have ample time to carve their pumpkins, which will then be prominently displayed at the Main Lodge before dinner. The guest with the most creatively carved pumpkin as judged by our staff wins a complimentary night stay at the resort on any Enchanted Night.

Evins Mill is hosting its first ever moonshine tasting on Saturday, December 14. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., guest will be treated to samples of authentic small-batch Tennessee moonshine from Short Mountain Distillery, a 300-acre working farm in adjacent Cannon County - and one of only a handful of licensed moonshine distilleries in the state.

The tasting will feature appetizers paired and prepared by Chef Evans just for the occasion. Led by Master Distiller Billy Kaufman, the tasting will be followed at 7:00 p.m. by a "Moonshine" dinner, featuring an Apple Streusel dessert, topped with Short Mountain Moonshine, local honey caramel.

A Shape Shifting Groundbreaking ~ Wed, Oct 9

On Wednesday, October 9th at 2:00 p.m., Evins Mill is hosting a brief and informal groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on The Solstice, a 6,000 square foot, three-story, eight bedroom Lodge that will be located at the highest elevation of the resort's property.

Slated for completion by the summer of 2014, The Solstice will inlude among its bedrooms both private accommodations and expansive suites, including a three bedroom condominium with its own kitchen, dining and living spaces.

Though situated well apart from the Main Lodge and hidden amid an elevated canopy of poplar, hickory and cedar trees, it will be convenient to all the amenities of the resort’s main campus, including fine dining, full bar, event spaces, conference rooms and recreational activities.

Unlike the resort's current creekside accommodations, The Solstice will be accessible by car, have its own private parking spaces and feature two handicapped accessible rooms. While all resort guests may enjoy all its public commons, The Solstice will feature private gathering areas available only to its guests.

With the completion of The Solstice, Evins Mill will boast 20 private overnight accommodations and be able to host notably larger corporate and special events than it has in the past and be better able to accommodate higher demend during its peak seasons.

While folks are often a little slack when it comes to commemorating Father's Day, Evins Mill will lift a glass to the weaker sex by hosting a Father's Day Cookout this Sunday, June 16 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with appetizers available as early as 5:00. If you're not already staying at the Inn, guests are welcome to make reservations for dinner-only and arrive early for short strolls to Carmac Falls. Evins Mill is hosting its first wine tasting of 2013 this Saturday, June 15. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., guest will enjoy multiple Australian & New Zealand wines along with appetizers paired and prepared by Chef Evans just for the occasion. Led by Taylor Bates of Best Brands, the tasting will be followed at 7:00 p.m. by a "Down Under" dinner menu featuring Australian Pastured Beef Tenderloin and Tasmanian Wild King Salmon.

On Saturday, December 8, Evins Mill continues its "Music at the Mill" concert series, featuring an intimate evening of fine dining followed by an equally compelling concert performance - this time around by singer-songwriters Craig Lackey, Tim James and Steve Williams.

For his part, Tim is a grammy nominated songwriter who has penned hits for the likes of Toby Keith, Lee Ann Womack and Darius Rucker. Steve, also grammy nominated, has penned songs for the Oak Ridge Boys and George Straight among other well-known artists. Concert organizer Craig Lackey has had many of his own songs placed in movies and televesion shows and has written numerous songs for Indie artists.
