Hiking Trails
Two unsurfaced trails lead to Carmac Falls. The North Trail begins by the Main Lodge and leads to the North Overlook, which offers the most spectacular view of Carmac Falls from above. The trail to the North Overlook is one mile there and back and features modest elevation changes. Accessing the overlook requires crossing a creek, which can usually be accomplished without getting one's shoes wet.
The South Trail begins by the Gristmill and is the only way to access the swimming hole at the base of Carmac Falls, which is one and a half miles there and back. Unlike the North Trail, the trail to the South Overlook is relatively flat, but the final descent to the base is steep, involves a significant elevation change and in one stretch borders a precipice.
Please note that parts of trails are adjacent to high cliffs and feature sharp drop-offs, steep descents and after rain slippery surfaces. Please also note that entry into the swimming hole should be exercised with caution, as rocks around it may be slippery. No life guard is ever on duty. Guests hike and swim at their own risk and are encouraged to use caution and good judgment.
